Plateau extra-judicial killing: Family of slain taxi driver demands justice

Sequel to the alleged killing of Abubakar Adamu, at the Farin Gada area of Jos LGA by troops of Operation Safe Haven (OPSH), the military is yet to reveal those behind the incident.

The deceased, a middle-aged taxi driver was allegedly arrested and beaten by the OPSH personnel after he disagreed with a female passenger over money she was supposed to pay after alighting from his vehicle.

When DAILY POST visited the deceased’s residence it was still in a sorrowful mood as mourners and sympathisers from within and outside the community were seen still commiserating with the family.

A few members of the family who spoke to DAILY POST claimed Adamu was killed by people who should have protected him from danger.
Abdulrahaman Sabiu, an inlaw to the deceased said, “Abubakar was killed by those he would normally look to protect him.

“All we are seeking for is Justice because we know the deceased as a peaceful person, who was doing a legitimate job to earn a living with his family.

“The deceased died and left a wife and four children, this is most unfortunate, we pray that justice will be meted on the perpetrators.

Also speaking, Sani Adamu Karafa, an elder brother to the deceased, said his family wants compensation for Abubakar’s immediate family.

“He left behind four children and his wife, we know they cannot bring him back, but his immediate family needs to be taken care of, and those who killed him must be punished”.

A neighbour of the deceased, Shehu Aliyu Maitala, told DAILY POST that the community is still in shock with the manner he was allegedly murdered by security operatives.

“The military must fish out those who committed this heinous act, so that they can face the full wrath of the law, to serve as a deterrent to others.

“He is not a loss to his family but to our entire community, because he was such a wonderful person, we pray Allah to grant him aljannah”, he stressed.

Meantime, Major Ishaku Takwa Spokesman of Operation Safe Haven in a press statement said, Commander, Major General Ibrahim Ali, who also doubles as GOC 3 Armoured Division Rukuba, has since constituted a Board of Inquiry to unravel those behind the heinous act.

Takwa assured that those who are found culpable will be made to face the full wrath of the law.
