Ted Lasso wins big at the TCA Awards taking home three awards including Program Of the Year

The television critics have spoken and chosen Apple TV Plus’ beloved comedy series Ted Lasso as the big winner at the Television Critics Association (TCA) Awards.

The hit series starring Jason Sudeikis took home the most awards of any show with three, including Program of the Year.

Ted Lasso also won Outstanding Achievement in Comedy and Outstanding New Program at this year’s ceremony, which, like last year, was held virtually.

The Apple TV Plus series starring Jason Sudeikis as the beloved title character beat out Netflix’s Bridgerton and The Queen’s Gambit, HBO Max’s Hacks, HBO’s I May Destroy You and Mare of Easttown, Amazon’s  The Underground Railroad and Disney Plus’ WandaVision.

While the winners and nominees weren’t present at a live ceremony, the TCA did put together a reel of acceptance speeches, including Ted Lasso’s big win for Program of the Year.

Star/co-creator/producer Jason Sudeikis accepted the award through videoconferencing with co-star/co-creator Brendan Hunt and co-creators Bill Lawrence and Joe Kelly, though Sudeikis did all of the talking.

‘Thank you all so much. I mean, yeah, this is amazing company to be in. Big fan of all those shows,’ Sudeiks began.

He added that they had already thanked everyone they made the show with, so he decided to thank, ‘all the folks out there who watch it and cared about it.’

‘It’s been really, really amazing to be embraced by yourselves, the critics, because while that may be the way you make your living now, I assume that part of the reason you chose to do what you do is because you love television, and the fact that you love and care about our show and voted for our show really means a lot,’ he added.

‘It’s nice to be a fan of things. I feel so. Thank you for your fandom, first and foremost and… nice to meet you,’ Sudeikis concluded.

Sudeikis’ co-star and co-creator Hunt accepted the Outstanding New Program award, where Ted Lasso beat out Netflix’s Bridgerton, HBO Max’s The Flight Attendant and Hacks, HBO’s I May Destroy You and Mare of Easttown, Starz’s P-Valley and Disney Plus’ WandaVision.

‘Wow thank you so much, Television Critics Association, for Best New Series. That’s really great and we’re really touched,’ Hunt said.

Bill Lawrence accepted the Outstanding Achievement in Comedy award, beating out HBO Max’s The Flight Attendant and Hacks, NBC’s Superstore and Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist, Peacock’s Girls5Eva, Hulu’s Pen15 and Apple TV Plus’ Mythic Quest.

‘I want to take this opportunity to thank not only Warner Bros. and Apple but a cast, a crew, a writing staff as well as my three co-creators here, who I am so happy to ride on their collective coattails,’ Lawrence said.

He added that it’s tricky because, ‘we’re supposed to pretend that we don’t care about awards… but man it’s fun, and it’s super fun to be proud of the people you work with, so thanks so much.’
