The Voice viewers blast claims Bella Taylor Smith won because of her links to Hillsong Church

The Voice fans have blasted claims Bella Taylor Smith only won because of her links to Hillsong Church after the show was criticised during Sunday night’s grand finale.

Bella, 23, who is a member of the evangelical megachurch, was crowned the winner after her impressive performance of Andrea Bocelli’s The Prayer alongside her coach Guy Sebastian, a devout Christian with links to Hillsong.

Viewers of the Channel Seven show hit back and insisted she ‘won fair and square’, after some skeptical fans claimed she was crowned the winner because of her links to the church.

‘Come on for God sake sick of conspiracy theorists making it into something its not. She’s a lovely girl with a fantastic voice. Religious or not, she’s won fair and square. Well done Bella,’ one person commented.

‘OMG. Doesn’t matter what religion she is. BELLA was amazing. She deserved to win. She was the best talent,’ another person wrote.

A third agreed: ‘I don’t think Bella won because she sang the religious song. We knew all along because of her big beautiful voice that she would be the winner, even if she sang another song so don’t bring religion into this.’

‘Seriously!! I don’t recall Hillsong being mentioned during the finals and even if it was so what!! Bella wowed everyone with her voice and she gave thanks to the ones who ultimately graced her with the gift! Congratulations Bella!’ one commented.

Another wrote:’Bella was amazing. She is beautiful and deserves The Voice title 2021. There is nothing wrong with having faith. Wishing her the best for the future.’

‘That’s absolutely absurd! She has an amazing voice and I really appreciate how open she is about her faith. A winner in every sense,’ another said.

It comes after The Voice was criticised on social media for appearing to promote the  Hillsong Church during Sunday night’s grand finale.

‘Hillsong has been instrumental in this show from the start. It’s been a vehicle for their singers. I refuse to watch anything that promotes [it],’ one critic tweeted.

‘Hillsong Church member auditions for a Hillsong coach, then Hillsong coach has to act like the Hillsong connection isn’t there until grand finale night but okay,’ another wrote, noting Smith and Sebastian’s ties to the religious organisation.
