Vicky McClure signs 'dream deal' with ITV to 'create and star in drama with The Crown's producers'

Vicky McClure has reportedly signed a ‘dream deal’ with ITV where she is set to create her own drama, under the title Redemption.

Taking on a starring role herself, the talented actor, 38, will collaborate with the team behind The Crown, Left Bank Pictures.

She will co-produce the series, which will be filmed in her native Nottingham.

It comes as the BAFTA winner, who is known to Line of Duty fans as DI Kate Fleming, has signed up for another project with the channel, a six-part thriller called Trigger Point.

She’ll be working with her former backstage colleagues at the BBC One cult show, where she will play a member of the Metropolitan Police’s bomb disposal unit.

Having done wonders for the BBC’s ratings, it should come as no surprise that their biggest rival is looking to snap up the woman of the moment.

Vicky recently thanked fans for their votes in a new video filmed in her dressing gown, after she was forced to miss the National Television Awards due to filming commitments.

The Broadchurch actress said she was ‘gutted I couldn’t be there’ in a heartfelt clip shared to Instagram on Thursday night, adding that she felt ’emotional’ watching back a montage of the BBC crime drama.

She said in the video: ‘Hello there, I thought I had better do a little video just to say – oh my god thank you so much. Sadly not a glamour NTA moment here but gutted I couldn’t be there. Absolutely gutted.

‘So blessed and so grateful to everybody who voted for the show – and everyone who voted for us in the acting category, you know we saw that you were all voting and it was so, so beautiful of you all to do that.

‘And David Tennant is an absolute legend so I’m so chuffed for him. The Special Recognition award, I’ve just watched the montage back and it made me quite emotional.’

Meanwhile, Line Of Duty creator Jed Mercurio, who also missed the event, said on Twitter: ‘Thanks so much to all our fabulous fans who voted for #LineofDuty at the National TV Awards.

‘We’re honoured to have been included alongside such outstanding nominees. Sadly ⁦@Vicky_McClure⁩ and I are filming and couldn’t be there to celebrate with our brilliant AC-12 mates.’

The award for Best Returning Drama was the show’s first NTA – and all eyes were on actor Tommy Jessop who played Terry Boyle in series five and six.

Line Of Duty fans looked on in disbelief, as when the BBC police drama accepted the Special Recognition Award, Tianna took centre stage, despite only having a blink and you’ll miss it cameo in the first episode of series five.

During Martin’s speech on behalf of the cast, a teary-eyed Tianna clung onto the award as she poignantly rested her head on her shoulder.

Twitter was soon awash with comments, accusing her of ‘stealing the limelight’ and joking Tianna ‘definitely wants us all to know she’s Martin Compston’s wife’.
