The Yobe State government has warned health workers against absenteeism, lateness and other professional misconduct.

The Executive Secretary, Yobe State Hospitals Management Board, Dr. Musa Baba gave the warning when he paid an unscheduled visit to the State Specialist Hospital, Gashu’a after receiving complaints from some community leaders.

The ES in a meeting with the management of the hospital reminded them that Gov. Mai Mala Buni had upgraded and provided state of the art equipment in the facility, in addition to posting more health workers to the facility.

He noted that the state’s healthcare sector had benefitted more than any other sector, hence the need for workers to reciprocate

”To whom much is given much is expected”.

“We are here to address some critical issues to ensure a qualitative health care service delivery”.

Dr. Baba tasked the management of the Specialist Hospital to ensure that all services run for 24 hours and that absenteeism and late coming will not be tolerated.

Other conditions dished out by the ES HMB are that patients must be treated with the utmost respect; patients’ privacy protected as well as all laboratory investigations completed within 24 hours of samples collection.

“Anybody who is not authorized to issue laboratory results, if found doing so will be sanctioned appropriately.

“All payments to the hospital should be made at the appropriate payment points and receipt must be collected.

“Any unauthorized person found collecting money for service charge will be appropriately sanctioned.

“Hospital assistants should maintain their status as assistants, they are not allowed to administer medications in whatever form”, Dr. Baba warned.

The Executive Secretary equally tasked the community to report issues relating to service failure or dissatisfaction with service delivered to the appropriate authority.
