My inspiration is Fela, not any singer in my league – Seyi Vibes to those comparing his sound with Asake’s

Fast-rising Afrobeats singer, Balogun Afolabi Oluwaloseyi, professionally known as Seyi Vibes has taken to social media to address claims that his style is similar to his colleague, Asake.

In recent weeks, both artistes have been releasing tracks which receive massive airplay in the country, but one thing that got fans talking is the similarity in tune and melody.

Seyi, who seems to have gotten tired of the comparison said he did not copy anybody’s style and his only inspiration is late Afrobeats legend, Fela Anikulapo Kuti.

The ”Billion Dollar Baby” singer explained that none of the new generation afrobeats singers inspired his sound.

Seyi Vibes, in a post on his Instagram story said his backup choir taps their inspiration from the late Fela Anikulapo-Kuti and no one else. He wrote:

“My choir backup is inspired by -FELA KUTI

I repeat FELA KUTI !!!

None of the Musicians in my league inspired my Sound. Only the OG’s did.”

Meanwhile, YBNL superstar, Ahmed Ololade professionally known as Asake or Mr Money revealed that his sound is influenced by the Fuji genre.

Asake who spoke about the uniqueness of his music in an interview with NATIVE magazine, said he’s a fuji artist but makes his sound “presentable to everybody”. He said:

“Omo, me I be Fuji artist o. I use actual music the same way Fuji artists do their thing. I’m just making my own more presentable to everybody. That’s where I’m from, I no be from rich family, but me I love the foreign life so my own (music) has to be modern.

“My sound is my sound. That makes it my sound, because you can’t understand it. The moment I understand it, that means it’s not my sound, so I have to keep dipping into my sound.”

On how he’s coping with fame, Asake said;

“I won’t lie it’s been very stressful. But it’s nice now, and it’s what I’ve been praying for. I’m just finding my way around it and I dey try live my life. I think it has to be stressful, that’s the fun of it, so you know you’re working. Sometimes sha, you gats do like say you tire, make them no talk say you be machine.”
