Yoruba Nollywood actress, Wumi Toriola has written an open letter to up and coming actors who desire to ‘blow’.
Wumi Toriola on Monday morning, December 19, stated that her advice isn’t restricted to those in the movie industry but cuts across all vocations.
According to the thespian, staying hungry by being committed and dedicated is the key to excelling, without expecting to become popular overnight. Wumi Toriola wrote:
“Dear New Actors, expecting to BLOW with that ONE movie by some big director/producer is not really effective anymore – in my opinion. I think the goal for every new actor is to become a household name overtime and that takes a lot of dedication and long term commitment. A key factor is also being seen regularly, especially in these parts. A lot of our “popular actors” (male/female) are really not popular when you check it. Conversations for another time.
My advice: keep pushing for more opportunities to be seen as much as possible, take all sorts of roles to broaden your range, treat every role as your last – no matter how big or small, continue to go for auditions (even some of your big stars still get auditioned) and finally, don’t be deceived by the “Cinema Faces” narrative… Na beans full that pot! Instead, do take every other platform seriously eg Rok, YouTube, Dstv, etc.
My point is, you haven’t arrived until you become a household name. Pay your dues and pray that the stars align in your favour in due time. Till then, stay hungry for more!.”
