Popular Nigerian singer Seun Kuti, the youngest son of Afrobeat pioneer Fela Anikulapo Kuti, has called for law to prevent cultist harassment in Nigeria.

He stated this, following the passing of singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, aka Mohbad, whose passing had aroused rumors of cult-like allegiance and activities in the entertainment sector.

He expressed his opinion about Mohbad’s death and the circumstances surrounding it on his Instagram profile. He stated that the tragedy was cult related and added that the threat had long existed and will be a burden to the next generation.

The singer asserted that cultism had permeated the Nigerian system so thoroughly that even law enforcement officials and other purportedly law-abiding citizens were not left out.

Seun Kuti added that his personal experience in custody was a witness to his assertion, adding that a number of officers disclosed their connections to him, assuming that he was also one of them.

He said:

When I was locked up numerous police officers and their ogas told me their different cultist affiliation thinking I was one of them so they could help me, even the police are cultists. Now u are asking cultist to investigate cultists. #getthesax.”

However, he urged legislators to act immediately by passing strict laws to combat cultism and cultist intimidation, stressing that if the issue was not appropriately addressed, a wave of cultists would undermine the next generation.
