Oyo chef begins 200-hour cook-a-thon to break world record set by Irish chef who dethroned Hilda Baci

Tope Maggie, a chef hailing from Ogbomoso, Oyo, has plunged into a formidable 200-hour cooking marathon with the aim of etching his name into the annals of a new world record.

Maggie, in a Thursday evening Instagram post, officially declared his audacious cooking marathon attempt. Accompanying the announcement were numerous pictures and videos, with Maggie earnestly seeking support for his ambitious endeavor.

According to the details shared on a flyer, Tope’s cooking marathon is unfolding at the Ogbomoso Recreation Club, Ogbomoso.

Tope, as captured in circulating videos, kicked off his audacious attempt on Thursday at 6 pm. Remarkably, at the time of this report, he has already surpassed an impressive 17 hours of continuous cooking.

The accompanying flier indicates that the chef has taken steps to seek the official approval of the Guinness World Records (GWR).

The Nigerian aims to break the world record of Alan Fisher, the Irish chef, who cooked for 119 hours and 57 minutes.

On November 7, the GWR certified Fisher as the record holder for the longest cooking marathon by an individual after he surpassed Nigerian chef Hilda Baci’s record of 93 hours and 11 minutes.

The Irish chef also claimed the longest baking marathon (individual), with a time of 47 hours 21 minutes.

Reacting to Fisher’s feat, Baci, who was certified for her own achievement by GWR in June — said she is happy to have held the prestigious record.

She also congratulated Fisher for his “huge achievement” and sent her best wishes to him.
