He recalls what happened that led to the question, stating that he was someplace when a little child he knew from years ago came up to him and said, “Uncle, I’m proud of you.”

Ibrahim continued, stating that he was taking pleasure in the comment when an elderly woman interrupted, telling the young boy that it is “rude” to tell an older person he is proud of them.

Drawing attention to the subtleties of communication dynamics, Ibrahim stated that he has pondered on the situation and questioned whether it is impolite for a younger person to express pride in an older person.
