American singer and rapper Melissa Viviane Jefferson, professionally known as Lizzo, has announced her decision to quit music, citing Relentless online trolling over her appearance as the reason behind her decision.

Lizzo’s decision comes after years of battling cyberbullying. She revealed that the constant negativity took a toll on her mental health.

The Grammy winner also addressed the phenomenon of “bullying for clout.” She explained that some individuals target her specifically to gain attention and followers.

In an emotional Instagram post, the 35-year-old singer poured her heart out. She wrote:

I’m getting tired of putting up with being dragged by everyone in my life and on the internet, all I want is to make music and make people happy. Help the world be a little better than how I felt it, but I’m starting to feel like the world does not want me in it.

“I’m constantly up against lies being told about me for clout & views… being the butt of the joke every single time because of how I look, my character being picked apart by people who don’t know me and disrespecting my name. I didn’t sign up for this sh*t… I quit.”

Lizzo’s career has been nothing short of remarkable. With four Grammy Awards under her belt, including Best New Artist and Best Urban Contemporary Album, she has solidified her place in music history. She’s also snagged a Billboard Music Award, a BET Award, and two Soul Train Music Awards.

Award winning singer, Melissa Viviane Jefferson, known professionally as Lizzo, has opened up to fans in an emotional new TikTok video, about “feeling sad” while confessing that she also feels “like a burden to everyone.”

The 33-year-old entertainer tearfully explained, “You know that part of sadness where you feel like a burden on everyone, and annoying, and nobody cares about you?” she asked aloud before letting out a sigh. “Can we get rid of that part? It’s like, ‘Yo, I’m already sad,’” she continued. “Gotta add insult to injury that I have no one to talk to about it. It’s crazy. Like, why do we feel this way? Why do we feel this way when we get sad?”
