Why I don’t promote nudity like my colleagues – Skit maker, Layi Wasabi

  • Layi Wasabi has opened up on why he doesn’t promote nudity like some of his colleagues whose contents center around it.
  • The skit maker stated that his content doesn’t need nudity but his colleagues who infuse it in theirs have their preferences.
  • Layi Wasabi also spoke on the inspiration behind his lawyer character, moving from Osogbo to Ibadan and finally settling in Lagos.

Budding Nigerian skit-maker, Isaac Olayiwola, otherwise known as Layi Wasabi, has said that unlike his colleagues, he does not see the need to use nudity to promote his skits.

According to Layi, the nature of his comedy and his target audience does not necessitate the usage of any form of sexual content to get viewership.

The online comedian stated this during a recent interview with BBC Pidgin, where he also shared the genesis of his journey into content creation.

He explained that he started it in Osogbo, Osun state before moving to Lagos to expand his reach and enhance his career prospects.

In Layi Wasabi’s words:

“Di kain skit wey I dey do no need naked women but I no go judge anybody. Comedy na wetin you fit do effortlessly.”

“Wen I bin start my content creation, I bin dey Osogbo and dey waka go Ibadan dat time too. Na wen di content creation really pick na im I move come Lagos to better di hustle.”

The content creator also shared an interesting origin story about his lawyer character, ‘Layi,’ which he said was inspired during his NYSC programme at the Ministry of Justice in Ibadan.

He explained how he developed the character after being intrigued by the demeanour and appearance of certain lawyers he encountered during his service year. Layi added:

“I notice say e get some kain lawyers wey really pick my interest. You go look dia shoe and dey wonder if na di kain same tin we study.”
