Joeboy knocks FG for prioritising National Anthem change over tackling hardship

  • Joeboy has questioned the federal government’s prerogative as well as their decision making regarding the National Anthem bill.
  • The bill which the president has now signed into law seeks to replace the current anthem with the former one adopted on October 1, 1960, but was changed in 1978 by the Olusegun Obasanjo military regime.
  • Joeboy wondered why the FG seems to have gotten their priorities wrong.

Popular singer Joseph Akinfenwaa Donus, aka Joeboy, has berated the federal government for prioritising changing the National Anthem over tackling the numerous challenges facing the country.

President Bola Tinubu on Wednesday, May 29, signed the National Anthem Bill 2024, into law to reinstate the old anthem, “Nigeria, We Hail Thee.”

Reacting, Joeboy wondered why a change of the National Anthem was prioritised over pressing national issues.

On his X handle, he wrote:

“Of all the problems Nigerians have to deal with, changing the national anthem is priority? Okay naw.”

Away from political matters, in February, Joeboy parted ways with Empawa Music, a label owned by Mr Eazi.

The singer the  signed a dual deal with global music giant, Warner Music, and launched his record label called “Young Legend”.

He also adjusted his profile names on social media to reflect the new label.

This move sees Joeboy exit Empawa after 5 successful years where he released 2 EPs (Love & Light and Body, Soul & Spirit), 2 albums (Somewhere Between Beauty & Magic and Body & Soul) and a plethora of hit singles & features amassing over 2 Billion streams across major DSPs.

Under the new Young Legend label, Joeboy will act as the CEO while Deola Jaiyesimi will serve as the Head of label with the task of churning out the next set of Afrobeats superstars on a global stage.

Joeboy made the announcement himself, while sharing a ritual-themed clip announcing the launch of his record label via X.
