Brandon Durham is another Black life that was stolen by a police officer despite the fact that he called them requesting their assistance. BOSSIP reported on the incident last week and today we have more information about the call Durham made and other heartbreaking details.
According to CNN, Durham was on the phone with the 911 emergency dispatcher for nearly seven minutes explaining the chaos that was unfolding outside of his home. He remained on the line up until the point where the alleged intruder, Alejandra Boudreaux, broke into the house.
They’re inside. They’re coming. They’re trying to blow up the house with gas,” Durham said on the line just moments before he was caught in a confrontation with the trespasser and then shot by police.
This is what we mean by police ineptitude. How could Durham have told the dispatcher ALL that information and the officer STILL not understand that if he sees two people wrestling over a knife, the person who called 911 for help is most likely not the person you should shoot in the head once and five more times when their body hits the floor.
Moreover, a second 911 call from a neighbor relayed to the dispatcher that someone was violently destroying Durham’s car with bricks. That’s more information that should have allowed a police officer to understand the situation. But no, Officer Bacon Fat came in the house and almost immediately shot Durham dead.
What makes this even more distressing is that right down the hallway from where Brandon Durham was killed, his terrified 15-year-old daughter was huddled in her bedroom hearing everything.
Says Durham’s sister Diane Wright:
“He was everything to her,” Diane Wright said per CNN. “His life was ripped away while she is down the hall in her room while his life is being taken from him — after calling for help like he is supposed to do, as a good citizen would do.”
Alexander Bookman should be handcuffed, fingerprinted, and remanded to a cell until trial. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
