Entertainment Week Lagos 2024: A celebration of creativity and innovation

Entertainment Week Lagos is more than just a fun event; it’s a driving force behind Nigeria’s creative economy.

Whether you’re into music, film, fashion, tech, or art, this was the ultimate hub for fun, learning, and collaboration.

From December 10 to 15, EWL 2024 turned Lagos into a buzzing playground of creativity, welcoming over 5,000 attendees, including top industry leaders, rising stars, and fans of African entertainment.

This year’s theme, “Connecting Tides,” explored how African creatives are blending AI, tech, and cultural authenticity to tell stories that resonate worldwide.

EWL 2024 wasn’t just about watching; it was about doing! From panel discussions and masterclasses to fashion shows and live performances, there was something for everyone.

Here’s a breakdown of the highlights

The week kicked off with a bang! The launch party featured VIP vibes, a star-studded guest list, and unforgettable performances to set the tone for the week.

Runway Coterie was all about African fashion. Designers brought their A-game, showcasing stunning collections that had us dreaming of our next wardrobe upgrade.

Think comedy night, but with extra spice! Some of Nigeria’s funniest comedians had the crowd laughing till their sides hurt. And yes, there was plenty of jollof rice to go around!

Friday was pure energy with Turn Up Lagos, a party that brought the city’s nightlife alive. Great music, dancing, and vibes? Check, check, and check!

AY’s new feature film, The Waiter, premiered with glitz and glamour. Directed by Toka McBaror, this action-packed film stars Nollywood heavyweights like Deyemi Okanlawon, Regina Daniels, and William Uchemba. The film hits cinemas on December 20, so mark your calendars!

EWL 2024 closed on a high note with a concert featuring some of the hottest DJs, including DJ Big N and DJ Spinall. It was the perfect way to wrap up a week of creativity and fun.

While the parties and showcases were lit, EWL 2024 was also about equipping creatives with the tools to succeed globally.

Through the LABSPOT Creative Skills and Enterprise Development (CSED) initiative, workshops and masterclasses gave participants hands-on learning experiences.

From mastering storytelling to understanding how AI can enhance creativity, attendees walked away with practical skills and fresh inspiration.

Co-founder Deola Art Alade summed it up perfectly:

“EWL 2024 isn’t just about celebrating talent; it’s about equipping creatives with practical tools to succeed globally,” she said.

The Marketplace was another big hit, featuring pop-up shops and booths where small businesses could shine. It was the ultimate spot to discover new talent, shop for unique merchandise, and support local brands.

EWL 2024 wasn’t just a festival; it was a movement. Managing Director Tiwa Medubi shared the vision behind the event:

“EWL is about creating bridges—between local talent and global opportunities, between creatives and the tools they need to succeed,” she said.

And boy, did it deliver! The week showcased how collaboration and innovation are fueling Nigeria’s creative economy while putting African talent on the global stage.
