The controversy surfaced with a 40-minute leaked audio recording on February 27, 2025, in which socialite Sophia Egbueje detailed her grievances to a friend. She claims that in 2024, her friend Ama Reginald and Burna Boy’s associate King Manny persuaded her to meet the singer.
Initially reluctant, Sophia was swayed by Burna Boy’s reputation for generosity—such as gifting his ex-girlfriend Stefflon Don a Rolls Royce Cullinan valued at around $500,000.
Sophia alleged that Burna Boy made several promises, including buying her a Lamborghini, but eventually ghosted her and failed to fulfill his promises.
There was also another voice note between Sophia and her cousin about how Ama has been such a bad friend, which led to them cutting ties.
Seemingly reacting to the brouhaha, Ama took to social media to share a cryptic post about her test of character and how she chose to remain firm in her truth. Her post, which has now garnered traction online, was also liked by Sophia Egbueje, to the surprise of many.
