Nigerian music executive and political commentator, Ubi Franklin, has stirred political conversation after dismissing the recently formed coalition of major opposition figures as incapable of unseating President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election.
The coalition, which includes former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, former Anambra governor Peter Obi, ex-Kaduna State governor Nasir El-Rufai, and former Minister of Transportation Rotimi Amaechi, has raised expectations among opposition supporters seeking a unified front to challenge the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the next electoral cycle.
However, Franklin believes the alliance — though notable — lacks the coordination and electoral strength to pose a serious threat to the current administration.
“With the way the coalition is currently constituted, it will be another interesting election, and they will not unseat Mr President,” Franklin stated via a recent post.
He acknowledged the movement but emphasized that criticisms of Tinubu’s leadership are often politically charged rather than objectively assessed.
“In Nigeria, if the opposition wants to campaign against you, they will never see anything good in what you have done. There are many things President Tinubu is getting right,” he said.
Franklin also turned attention to state-level governance, insisting that state governors must be pushed to deliver on their mandates, especially given increased allocations since 2023.
“It’s time we start pushing the sub-nationals (governors) to work and do more to support the work being done at the centre. They are receiving more than the governors before 2023,” he added.

His comments have sparked backlash across social media. Some supporters of the coalition accused Franklin of dismissing genuine opposition efforts.

Franklin’s statement underscores ongoing debates about the viability of a united opposition versus the entrenched dominance of the APC under Tinubu’s leadership.
The coalition, brokered under the African Democratic Congress (ADC) political vehicle, is reportedly in its early stages of negotiation and strategic planning. Political analysts suggest the alliance could reshape the 2027 election landscape — if it maintains cohesion.
