For someone known as the African Giant, Burna Boy continues to live up to the name, constantly moving, performing, and evolving. But when it comes to starting a family, the Grammy award-winning Afrobeats star says it might not happen anytime soon.
In a new interview with BBC Radio 1Xtra in London, Damini Ogulu, popularly known as Burna Boy, admitted that his relentless touring schedule has left little room for settling down or raising a family.
When asked if starting a family was something he saw in the near future, Burna responded honestly:
“I don’t want to start that on the road. I’m not planning on quitting tours anytime soon, so I don’t know where to now put that [starting a family]; find a middle ground.”
The interview also revealed another surprising detail about Burna’s lifestyle, that despite his fame, fortune, and global recognition, he’s never taken a vacation.
When the interviewer remarked, “You’ve just kept going,” Burna nodded and replied simply,
“Look, I have to.”
Pressed further on what “resting Burna Boy” even looks like, the Afrobeats superstar laughed and confessed:
“Nah, I don’t know, you know. I’ve never been on a vacation.”
The light-hearted moment continued as the interviewer joked about wanting to see Burna Boy relaxing with his toes in the sand.
Burna playfully responded,
“No, my toes are nice, you know.”
At 34 years old, Burna Boy remains one of the most in-demand Nigerian artists globally. He has a packed touring calendar, headlines performances on major stages like Coachella, Madison Square Garden, and Glastonbury, and a catalogue of hits that keep fans around the world dancing.
In other news, Nollywood trailblazer and visionary filmmaker, Kunle Afolayan, has once again raised the bar for the Nigerian film industry. Not with a movie, but with a cinema named after himself.
In a celebratory Instagram post on Instagram, Afolayan announced the birth of “The Kunle Afolayan Cinema”, a 115-seater movie theatre that is now part of his expanding creative empire. The filmmaker shared a video of the cinema’s interior and exterior, offering fans and followers a first look at the sleek facility.
