Popular Nigerian skit maker and actor, Aloma Isaac Junior, better known as Zicsaloma, has slammed trolls over hurtful comments about his mother’s appearance.
The content creator recently came under intense fire after he posted a heartfelt video featuring his elderly mother, who is currently battling cancer.
According to Zicsaloma the video was meant to capture a beautiful moment: his mum expressing her desire to attend his movie premiere, despite her fragile health.
But instead of support and love, the video attracted a shocking amount of negativity from online trolls.
Zicsaloma revealed that some commenters mocked his mother’s appearance. They ridiculed her nose, calling her ugly, and even questioning why he hadn’t paid for cosmetic surgery on her behalf.
The skit maker, visibly disappointed, took to social media to call out the insensitive reactions. While he maintained that the negative comments didn’t get to him personally, he found it “unacceptable” that his mother, who is a 70-something-year-old woman undergoing chemotherapy, was being attacked online. He said in part:
“I saw some comments saying my mum’s nose is big, asking me, ‘Why you no do surgery for her?’ People were saying my mother is ugly. You’re saying this about a woman who is over 70 years old, fighting a terminal illness like cancer. I wish most of you saying all these negative things about my mum will get to 70 years and look as good as she does.”
Zicsaloma didn’t hold back as he slammed what he described as a “finished generation,” questioning the values, empathy, and critical thinking of young Nigerians both at home and abroad. He went as far as linking the behavior to the country’s socio-political issues. He fumed:
“This generation is finished. That is why sometimes I say we deserve what we get in this country… People who reason like this — how can they vote for a good government? How can there not be tribalism or religious sentiment?”
Despite the wave of hate, Zicsaloma acknowledged and appreciated the kind messages he received, but noted that the negativity was far louder than he expected.
Fans and supporters have since rallied behind him, commending his strength, love for his mother, and for standing up against online bullying, especially toward the elderly.
