Baba Fryo reveals what really ended 2Baba and Annie’s marriage

Celebrity Gig

Veteran Nigerian singer Baba Fryo has joined the growing list of voices weighing in on the highly speculated separation between Afrobeats icon Innocent “2Baba” Idibia and his Nollywood actress wife, Annie Macaulay.

In a candid conversation on The Honest Bunch podcast, the Dem Go Dey Pose crooner didn’t mince words as he dissected what he believes went wrong in the celebrity marriage once hailed as #couplegoals.

According to Fryo, the failure of the marriage wasn’t just about infidelity or emotional turmoil as many might assume. He alleged that it was about imbalance, or rather, the lack of it. In Fryo’s words:

“2Face and his ex-wife didn’t manage themselves well. They are both entertainers.

“In marriage, the woman is supposed to provide balance. But if the man drinks and the woman also drinks, who will watch over the other? Who will take who home?”

His statement sparked a wave of reactions online, especially as it touched on the often-ignored dynamic of two celebrities sharing not just a home, but the same high-pressure, image-conscious industry.

Fryo argued that when both partners are deep in the limelight, lacking external grounding or lifestyle contrast, it can lead to emotional chaos.

In his words, unchecked similarities in vices or lifestyle, like partying, drinking, or ego, can weaken a marriage’s foundation.

Fryo went on to offer a rather personal take, revealing an unexpected connection to Natasha, the woman believed to be 2Baba’s current partner. Baba Fryo disclosed: I carried Natasha when she was three”, recalling his long-standing relationship with her family.

While Fryo made it clear he wasn’t supporting infidelity, he pointed out that sometimes, a man may gravitate toward a woman who brings peace or perspective especially if what he has at home feels unstable. He noted:

“If you drink and your partner drinks, and both of you are lost in the same circle, there will be no one to catch the other when they fall.

That’s why sometimes, men end up seeking peace from people outside.”
