Popular social critic and media personality, Scott Iguma, has been granted bail by the Federal High Court in Ikoyi following his arrest and arraignment over allegations of defamation.
Iguma, who is known for his bold online exposés of real estate scams in Lagos, was picked up by authorities on Wednesday, July 16, after making a series of claims against a well-known realty company. According to reports, the outspoken commentator was charged with four counts related to criminal defamation and cyberbullying.
He was arraigned in court on Thursday, July 17, where the judge ordered his remand pending the hearing of his bail application set for today, Monday, July 21. After much anticipation from his supporters and online followers, the court granted him bail. However, his specific bail conditions are yet to be made public.
Scott Iguma has built a large social media following for consistently calling out real estate companies accused of shady deals, land scams, and property fraud. His arrest sparked outrage among fans who viewed it as an attempt to silence a voice speaking up for victims of housing-related fraud.
