I almost jumped off that cliff – Chidinma Ekile opens up on near-death experience

Gospel singer Chidinma Ekile has opened up about a harrowing spiritual encounter she had during a 40-day prayer and fasting retreat, revealing that the devil tried to push her to end her life.

During a moving testimony service, the 34-year-old former Project Fame winner said God had instructed her to go on the intense retreat shortly after returning from a trip to the United States. Without hesitation, she obeyed but had no idea just how intense the spiritual warfare ahead would be. Chidinma shared:

“I went to the mountain. I’m not Jesus, but I fasted and prayed for over forty days. I lost weight. The experience was something I never imagined… I never knew He loved me this much.”

She recounted sleeping in the bush, praying and crying night after night in a vulnerable search for answers until one terrifying moment nearly broke her. She continued:

“While I was on the mountain, the enemy… took me to the top of the mountain, to the cliff at night, where everything was dark. And right there at the cliff, the devil asked me to jump. The voice was so strong… I was about to take the jump, and I noticed I was being barricaded… Something was just there, and I was crying… God had mercy.”

The singer, who stunned fans in 2021 with her transition from secular to gospel music, described the experience as a divine surgery of the soul. She added that it was a moment where God stripped her of “baggage” and filled her with a new sense of purpose. She revealed:

“It was more like I was in a theatre. God performed surgery on me, took some things and put in some. He broke me into shreds… I’ve seen it all, and material things don’t move me anymore. God is looking for those who are not perfect or strong people.”

According to Chidinma, she had been doing all the “right” things outwardly, but felt a deep sense of emptiness and restlessness.

“He showered me with so much love… peace inside of me… cannot buy with money. I was doing all I had to do, but I wasn’t fulfilled. I needed to move, but I didn’t know how. But Jesus is King.”

Chidinma’s journey to gospel music has been nothing short of transformational. After winning Project Fame West Africa in 2010, she quickly became a household name with hits like Kedike and Run Dia Mouth. But in 2021, she shocked fans with a spiritual rebirth that saw her join EeZee Global Ministry, releasing worship songs that showcase a deeper, more personal side of her artistry.
