Iyabo Ojo clarifies her role in Verydarkman’s arrest, viral WhatsApp group chat and #JusticeforMohbad campaign

Celebrity Gig

Nollywood actress and outspoken activist Iyabo Ojo has finally addressed the swirling allegations made against her by controversial social media commentator VeryDarkMan (VDM), breaking her silence in a lengthy response that tackled everything from WhatsApp group accusations to claims of personal vendetta and payment-related rumours.

Her reaction comes hours after VeryDarkMan made damning allegations online, accused Iyabo Ojo, actor Jigan, and several others of running a WhatsApp group where narratives were allegedly controlled, critics were threatened, and plans were hatched to destroy his image — including threats to leak his nudes and get him imprisoned.

The accusations sparked fresh outrage and divided opinions, especially among followers of the late singer Mohbad’s ongoing justice campaign.

In her official response shared via her Instagram page, Iyabo Ojo dismissed the allegations as false and malicious, describing them as part of a coordinated attempt to tarnish her reputation. She revealed that her involvement in the Justice for Mohbad movement stemmed from genuine concern and a civic obligation, not from any underhanded motives.

According to Iyabo, she had initially called on other celebrities to join the cause publicly, stressing that she could not fight alone. Two separate groups, she claimed, were created, one to coordinate a peaceful walk and another, tagged “Concerned Citizens,” to continue advocacy efforts after the walk was cancelled.

She listed the progress made: Mohbad’s body was exhumed, a coroner’s inquest was launched, and several individuals named in Mohbad’s petition were questioned. “We lent our voices and pushed for justice as concerned citizens,” she stated. “We achieved some goals.”

On the matter of VeryDarkMan’s arrest, the actress clarified her involvement. She revealed that although she filed an initial petition for defamation, it was not pursued due to an intervention by her partner, Paulo.

She also stated that her name appeared in a second petition only in the capacity of a witness, following what she described as repeated false accusations from VDM.

Iyabo Ojo concluded her remarks with a call for continued civic focus, urging Nigerians who are committed to justice for Mohbad to stay persistent in monitoring the legal process and pushing for transparency and accountability. She also stated that she would not be commenting further on the issue going forward.
