Award-winning singer Omawunmi Megbele, popularly known as Omawunmi, has condemned what she calls unfounded claims made by longtime friend Timaya (Inetimi Alfred Odon), who alleged that both she and fellow vocalist Waje were once asked by Burna Boy to leave a recording studio.

In a December 2024 interview on Naija FM, Timaya recounted a studio session that took place in Lekki Phase 1.. He described how a young Burna Boy, brimming with confidence, predicted that one day he would be paid to board private jets — a statement met with disbelief by Omawunmi and Waje.

Timaya recalled:

Omawumi and Waje started doubting him because then Nigerian artistes hadn’t started flying private jets. He got angry and … asked them to leave.”

He characterized the moment as a turning point in Burna Boy’s meteoric rise, underscoring what he called the artist’s “fearless” belief in his own destiny.

In a recent interview on Naija FM, Omawunmi expressed hurt and frustration that her name was used in a context that she insists never took place. According to her, Burna Boy never walked her or Waje out of any studio.

She explained that she was only present during a session where Burna Boy invited Waje for a collaboration. Omawunmi said she voluntarily left the studio to attend to another engagement—not because she was asked to leave.

The Singer also expressed disappointment that Timaya never reached out to her privately after making the public claim, given the length and closeness of their friendship.

Omawunmi’s rebuttal didn’t just clear the air — it lit up social media. While many fans praised her for setting the record straight, others expressed disappointment at how casually friendships in the industry seem to unravel in public narratives.

For Omawunmi, this wasn’t just a denial — it was a boundary. One that fans say was long overdue in a space where silence is often mistaken for consent.
