Reality TV star and ex-Big Brother Naija housemate Queen Mercy Atang has shared a deeply emotional reaction to a scene from Kemi Adetiba’s gripping Netflix series, To Kill a Monkey.
In a video posted to her Instagram page, Queen was seen crying uncontrollably while watching the heartbreaking moment Oboz, played by Bucci Franklin, gets fatally betrayed. Oboz was double-crossed by someone he trusted, his own brother-in-arms, Efe portrayed by William Benson.
The viral scene shows Oboz standing firm, even in the face of death, declaring with his last strength: “Before you touch him, you’ll have to kill me first. You can’t touch my brother.”
But in a shocking twist, he discovers too late that the real betrayal came from the one he was willing to die for. That emotional punch was too much for Queen, who said it hit too close to home. She wrote:
“Watching this film broke me. Even in the face of danger, he was still holding on to his charm, trying to protect them both… until he realized his own brother had betrayed him.”
She went on to reflect on her own past experiences with betrayal, revealing how she’s often misunderstood for reacting emotionally when hurt. She cautioned:
“Stop judging people who get upset and vent right away. They’re often the realest and kindest at heart. I speak from deep experience.”
Queen added that she’s often been criticised for how she reacts to pain, but moments like this remind her why she’s so passionate. She revealed:
“If you ever betray me… I will vent. I will react. I will fight in my own way. But once it’s out of my system, it ends there.”
Concluding her post, Queen Mercy admitted she was struggling to move on from the intensity of the scene:
“Now I’m crying myself to sleep. I won’t be getting over this movie anytime soon.”
To Kill a Monkey premiered on Netflix on July 18 and has already gained cult attention for its gritty storytelling and unexpected twists. The series follows Efemini, a young man dragged into cybercrime, only to be caught in a web of betrayal and revenge.
The eight-episode crime-thriller stars William Benson, Bucci Franklin, Stella Damasus, Bimbo Akintola, Chidi Mokeme, and Sunshine Rosman. But it’s Bucci Franklin’s portrayal of Oboz, especially in his final moments, that has left viewers like Queen emotionally wrecked.
The betrayal scene has become one of the most talked-about moments from the series so far, sparking emotional reactions across social media.
