Afrobeats superstar David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has finally reacted to claims made by controversial activist Martins Vincent Otse, widely known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), who publicly denied ever receiving any financial help from the singer.
The exchange comes on the heels of a recent online video where VDM firmly stated that contrary to popular belief, Davido never paid for his hotel or flight during their much-publicized linkup in Lagos.
This narrative Verydarkman claimed has often been used by critics to shut him down whenever he comments on matters involving the “Unavailable” crooner.
Amid the buzz, Davido, currently still on his global “5Alive Tour,” dropped a subtle yet direct now-deleted comment on Instagram under a post referencing the situation.
“VDM if u like abuse my whole life I no fit fight u,” he wrote, drawing mixed reactions online — some taking it as sarcastic, others calling it graceful restraint.
Responding swiftly, VeryDarkMan quoted the singer:
“@davido SETTING THE RECORD STRAIGHT. If you see am as insult, the aluta continua. Love always from my end (I no be anybody boy still)!”
Despite the online friction, VDM maintained that his intentions weren’t driven by hate, but clarity.

The back-and-forth has since stirred intense reactions across social media, with fans praising Davido’s maturity and others commending Verydarkman’s transparency.
The controversy stems from widespread assumptions that Davido funded Verydarkman’s trip to Lagos at the peak of his social media relevance in 2023.
During that period, VDM was widely seen defending Davido during his online feud with associates of Wizkid and others, fueling speculation that his loyalty may have been incentivized.
