Afrobeats singer Jaywon has set the record straight on claims that he’s picking sides in the ongoing cold war between Nigerian music heavyweights Wizkid and Davido.
Taking to his TikTok page, the ‘This Year’ crooner expressed disbelief over the assumption that his friendship with Davido automatically puts him at odds with Wizkid. Jaywon said in the video:
“So because I’m close to Davido, that has automatically made me an enemy of Wizkid? Please make it make sense. Make me understand this. I don’t get it.”
The singer’s reaction comes amid heightened fan tensions and subtle jabs exchanged online between the two Afrobeats superstars’ fan bases.
Jaywon made it clear he has no interest in being dragged into their rivalry, stressing that personal relationships shouldn’t be misconstrued as taking sides.
The singer, who has collaborated with several big names in the industry over his career, maintained that his focus remains on making good music and fostering healthy relationships in the entertainment space.
Wizkid and Davido are two of Nigeria’s biggest music stars, and their careers have been intertwined with a long-standing and often public rivalry, sometimes referred to as “beef”.
While they’ve had moments of collaboration and even reconciliation, their relationship is marked by ongoing tension and playful jabs at each other, particularly on social media.
Both artists emerged as prominent figures in the Nigerian music scene in the late 2000s and early 2010s.
Wizkid, whose real name is Ayodeji Balogun, started his music career earlier than Davido.
Davido, whose real name is David Adeleke, gained prominence after moving to Nigeria in 2011.
Their early success and popularity led to a natural comparison and, eventually, a rivalry between their fan bases.
