Ireti Doyle shares throwback from 2006 film Sitanda, reflects on colourful Nollywood journey

Veteran Nollywood actress Ireti Doyle has stirred nostalgia among movie lovers after sharing a rare throwback photo from her role in the 2006 epic film Sitanda.

In the striking photo, a younger Ireti is dressed in rustic, tribal attire. It’s a one-shoulder dress made of animal skin fabric, accessorised with traditional beads around her neck and wrist.

Beside her stands a male co-star, shirtless and wearing a matching animal skin loincloth, a red headband, and a beaded armband, holding a spear as they pose on what appears to be a rural movie set with open fields in the background.

Posting on Instagram, Ireti revealed that a colleague recently sent her the picture, which brought back vivid memories of one of her early career highlights. She wrote:

“A colleague just sent me this picture, Oluwa o!

The year is 2006

The film: SITANDA… the fruit of Gamstelmalta first foray into Nollywood directed by Izu Ojukwu.”

Sitanda went on to become a roaring success, earning 11 nominations at the Africa Movie Academy Awards (AMAA) that year. The film, celebrated for its gripping storytelling and rich cultural backdrop, is now considered a Nigerian classic.

Reflecting on her career, Ireti described her journey as “diverse and colourful,” a fitting description for a star who has played an array of memorable roles over the decades. She added:

“It went on to be a roaring success and was nominated in 11 categories at the AMAA awards.

My journey is certainly diverse and colourful! 💫”

In other news, Reality TV star and entrepreneur, Ka3na Jones, has shared a deeply emotional post about the realities of raising her child alone following the death of her husband, Mr. Jones.

Taking to Instagram, the former Big Brother Naija housemate bared her heart, admitting that she has never been able to get used to being a single parent.

Despite the pain, the reality star said she wouldn’t change anything about her journey because she can’t imagine her life without her daughter.
