Social media commentator Martin’s Vincent Otse, Verydarkman has reacted to the viral incident involving a female passenger and airport security at Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, describing it as a case where “two wrongs don’t make a right.”
The drama was full blown on Sunday after Comfort Emmanson, a passenger who had just arrived on an Ibom Air flight from Uyo, assaulted a flight attendant and clashed with security officials.
Multiple videos circulated online showed the visibly agitated woman shouting at crew members and airport police who were attempting to calm her.
In one clip, Emmanson appeared to physically attack a female flight attendant, with witnesses claiming she slapped the crew member after being cautioned for switching on her mobile phones mid-flight, in violation of aviation safety rules.
The altercation escalated when airport police officers boarded to intervene. During the struggle to remove her from the aircraft, her clothes were torn, exposing her bust region in full view of passengers and airport staff. The confrontation quickly drew attention from travellers in the terminal and spread rapidly across social media platforms.
Verydarkman, in his online reaction, condemned Emmanson for disregarding flight safety regulations, going physical with a crew member, and refusing to disembark when instructed. He emphasised that her behaviour was the primary trigger for the chain of events.
However, he also criticised the conduct of the airport police, faulting them for what he described as excessive force and unnecessary humiliation by tearing her clothing during the removal. While acknowledging that the passenger was wrong, he maintained that law enforcement officers should have exercised better restraint and professionalism.
The incident has since drawn official attention. The Special Adviser to the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development on Media and Communications, Tunde Moshood, confirmed that Emmanson has been arraigned and remanded at the Kirikiri Correctional Facility pending further investigation.
The clash has sparked wider discussions on social media about passenger conduct, airline safety enforcement, and the boundaries of lawful police intervention.
While many commentators agree with Verydarkman’s stance that Emmanson’s actions were unacceptable, some also believe the airport security response raised questions about the protection of passengers’ dignity during enforcement operations.
