- Music lovers worldwide are buzzing with excitement as the Recording Academy lifts the curtain on the highly-anticipated 67th Grammy nominations.
- But what has truly electrified fans is the Best African Music Performance categoryâevery single nomination is a triumph of Nigerian artistry.
Nigeria has taken the Grammy spotlight by storm this year, with the Best African Music Performance category filled exclusively by Nigerian talents, proving once again the powerhouse that Nigerian music has become on the world stage.
Heavyweight Burna Boy is back in the race with a nod for his hit âHigher,â while Asake, teaming up with Wizkid on âMMS,â also contends for the prestigious award.
Davido grabs his second nomination in the category this time alongside Lojay, who earns his first Grammy nod for their feature on Chris Brownâs âSensational.â
Yemi Alade lands her first solo nomination for âTomorrow,â while Tems secures her place with âLove Me Jeje,â capping off an all-star Nigerian lineup.
But Tems doesnât stop thereâsheâs the only African artist with multiple nominations across global categories this year. Her debut album Born in the Wild vies for Best Global Music Album, where sheâs joined by Rema, who is up for his sophomore album HEIS.
Outside the African and global categories, Tems also shines in Best R&B Song for âBurning,â a standout track from her album thatâs captured listeners worldwide.
And making an unexpected splash, Nigerian-American country artist Shaboozey rakes in five nominations, making history with nods in Song of the Year and Best Country Solo Performance for his viral sensation, âA Bar Song (Tipsy).â
With an extra boost from the David Guetta remix, which earned a nomination for Best Remixed Recording, Shaboozeyâs genre-crossing impact continues with a nomination for Best Melodic Rap Performance for his contribution to BeyoncĂ©âs âSpaghetti.â
